Metropolitan Life CIO Irwhan Rakiep joins the list of IT leaders competing for the 2025 CIO of the Year title.
Irwhan Rakiep has been nominated for the 2025 CIO Awards for his work as the IT Executive at Metropolitan Life, a subsidiary of the Momentum Group.
Irwhan was appointed as CIO of Metropolitan in 2018 to lead the company’s digital transformation journey, after being promoted from an enterprise architect and software development manager role. He initially joined Metropolitan as a technical lead and has since then climbed through the ranks.
He is among the nominees competing to take home one (or more) of the nine awards up for grabs at the annual “Oscars of IT” this year, including the CIO of the Year title.
Irwhan began his career as a software developer at Vodacom, where he gained experience in building complex, disparate systems. He holds an honours in computer science from University of Cape Town, as well as advanced leadership qualifications from Duke University and Wits Business School.
Following the success of the third annual CIO Awards in 2024, CIO South Africa continues to shine a spotlight on the finest in IT and their achievements. On 13 November, the 2025 nominees will be celebrated during a gala ceremony at The Inanda Club in Sandton.
