Dhesen will be leading the insurer’s technology and innovation strategy in his new role.

Dhesen Ramsamy, a 2023 CIO Awards nominee, has assumed the role of group chief technology officer at Old Mutual, marking a significant career move after his tenure as the group chief digital and technology officer (CDTO) at Momentum Metropolitan Holdings.

In an exclusive interview with CIO South Africa last year, Dhesen mentioned that businesses are at the centre of several forces from a consumer expectation perspective. As a result, the traditional role of IT also fundamentally changes, and IT leaders need to be at the forefront as strategic and thinking partners rather than an order taker.

“IT leaders cannot lean on some of the things that made them successful before: they need to take their seat at the table when client solutions are being discussed and strategy is being tabled,” he says

Dhesen is a seasoned technology executive with an impressive track record of over two decades in the IT industry. During his time at Momentum, he played a pivotal role in facilitating the implementation of the group's robust, innovative, and cohesive digital IT strategy, aligning it with the organisation's strategic business objectives.

In his new capacity as group CTO at Old Mutual, he will spearhead the insurer's technology strategy and drive innovation within the company.

He completed a BSc in chemical engineering from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, an MBA from the University of Cape Town, and participated in Wharton School's executive education programme in international housing finance.

Beyond the corporate realm, Dhesen is an ardent music enthusiast, proudly identifying himself as a music nerd. His favourite musical genres encompass folk rock, grunge, and reggae, showcasing his diverse interests outside of his professional pursuits.
