Oppenheimer Generations has appointed former Sasfin group CIO Josh Souchon as its new IT executive.
Oppenheimer Generations, a diverse community of commercial ventures and not-for-profit organisations, representing the global interests of the Nicky and Jonathan Oppenheimer family, has appointed 2023’s Digital Innovation and IT Project of the Year Awards recipient, Josh Souchon, as its new IT executive – a strategic move in bolstering the organisation’s digital capabilities.
Josh is a seasoned IT executive and strategic thinker, passionate about using technology and data to craft tailored client experiences. He has spent most of his career in the financial services sector, holding senior roles at several of South Africa’s big five banks, including Standard Bank, Nedbank and Investec.
Prior to joining Oppenheimer Generations, Josh was group CIO at Sasfin Bank, where he oversaw the successful implementations of B\\YOND (Sasfin Online Banking Platform) and the Business Banking app, and a variety of cloud-based solutions. Before that, Josh also spent five years with Investec as head of IT for capital markets and achieved great success there. His biggest achievement was creating an IT system for each of Investec’s 16 business units. And by the time he left, the trading business, treasury and specialised finance all ran on their own systems.
To unwind Josh enjoys travelling – a blend of the sea and mountains, listing Franschhoek and Stellenbosch in Cape Town, and Drakensberg as his top local choices. Although the Alps remains Josh’s most memorable vacation.
“The mountains make each of these destinations very special in their own way. I think back to a skiing holiday in the Swiss Alps, post a rugby tour to the UK and Ireland, and driving my sister to the University of Cape Town for the first time – driving through the majestic mountains into the winelands of the Cape,” he told CIO South Africa.
Josh is also a passionate Formula One fan and a proud supporter of Lewis Hamilton. In his downtime, he enjoys reading about business philosophy, leadership and even quantum mechanics.
He holds a BSc (Hons) degree in engineering from Imperial College of London.
