Thomas Motlepa has been appointed as the new chief technology and information officer (CTIO) at MTN Uganda.
MTN Uganda has appointed three seasoned leaders to its exco, enhancing the company’s strategic vision and operational capabilities.
Thomas Motlepa joins MTN Uganda as chief technology and information officer (CTIO). His deep expertise in network optimisation and digital transformation will drive innovation, elevating MTN Uganda’s connectivity services.
His career began at the SABC in communication engineering, followed by roles at Telkom as a senior network planner, and Ericsson as a transmission network design specialist. Thomas first joined MTN in the early 2000s, working as a manager in Nigeria, and later moved to MTN Zambia, where he served as chief technical officer. Most recently, he was the chief technology officer at MTN Ghana.
Thomas brings more than 20 years of experience in the telecommunications industry at various levels, with a variety of technologies. He has been working in African mobile GSM markets, in countries such Nigeria, Ghana, Zambia and Cameroon, and the Middle East (Iran) and Europe (Denmark, LMDS technology) for the past two decades.
Thomas holds a degree in electrical engineering (telecommunications) from the University of Johannesburg and has completed the Gordon Institute of Business Science’s executive development programme for global leaders in emerging markets.
MTN’s two other notable appointments include Peace Kabatangare Zulu as the new General manager of internal audit and forensics and Franklin Kano Ocharo, who has been appointed as general manager of growth and new business.
