Norcros SA appoints Dion Naidoo as its new group IT executive

Dion will be in charge of Norcros SA’s overall IT strategy.

Norcros South Africa, a division of Norcros, a British company listed on the London Stock Exchange, has named Dion Naidoo as its new group IT executive/CIO. Dion will be responsible for overseeing Norcros’s IT infrastructure, including hardware, software, and networking, as well as leading the company’s IT strategy. He will report into the group CFO of Norcros SA.

Norcros South Africa is a leading manufacturer of ceramic tiles and adhesives and a leading retailer of these and associated products such as sanitaryware under the Johnson Tiles, Tile Africa, TAL and House of Plumbing brands.

Dion has 24 years of IT experience, including more than 18 years as an IT executive. He has also successfully introduced new technologies into many of the industries in which he has worked. But lately, Dion has been most excited about the latest digital software/hardware technology, which he hopes to introduce at Norcros, and he hopes to use technology as a key enabler to help the business grow and give competitors a run for their money.

Dion previously worked as the regional CIO at G4S, a British multinational private security company, and as the head of IT: MEA at 3M. He completed an MBA from the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS).

According to Dion, the move from G4S was motivated by career ambitions and Norcros’s workplace culture. “It’s always been my career goal to one day be a group IT exec or CIO,” he says. “It was also a good time to join what I view as a family-oriented company.”

He also intends to change perceptions of the IT industry, specifically that IT is too often viewed as a cost centre and a firefighter. “My master’s thesis was to change the landscape of IT by ensuring we become business partners rather than firefighters,” he explains.

“My long-term vision is to position Norcros as the leading manufacturer of ceramic tiles in the country, and I intend to do so by leveraging the most cutting-edge technologies available.”
