He succeeds acting MD Molatlhegi Kgauwe, who was appointed in that capacity in July.
Following a meeting held on 30 November, Cabinet has named Dr Bongani Andy Mabaso as CEO of the State Information Technology Agency (SITA). He is among other appointees subject to the verification of qualifications and security clearance.
Following the resignation of Dr Setumo Mohapi, SITA’s former CEO, in March 2019, the agency has had an acting CEO, executive caretaker, and, most recently, an acting MD.
In December 2019, former communications and digital technologies minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams announced the repurposing of SITA, which saw the appointment of Luvuyo Keyise as executive caretaker for a period of 24 months.
Luvuyo was reappointed as interim MD for six months, ending July 27, 2022, according to a Cabinet media statement issued in January 2022.
Bongani is currently the CIO for digital and customer journeys at Standard Bank Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB). At Transnet Engineering, where he spent over a decade, Bongani was executive research manager, in charge of leading a diverse team responsible for R&D in machine intelligence, data platforms and analytics, IoT hardware and electronics, control systems, sustainable energy, and propulsion systems and motors.
He holds a PhD in machine ethics and computational morality from the University of Pretoria.
