Vukosi Sambo is STM Healthcare Investments' new CIO

Vukosi, a running enthusiast and keynote speaker known for his expertise in data and analytics, brings a wealth of experience in healthcare technology.

STM Healthcare Investments, PHA & Marara Group, has appointed Vukosi Sambo as its new CIO. Prior to joining STM Healthcare, Vukosi was the executive head of data insights and AI at AfroCentric Group, where he was responsible for the design, implementation and measurement of the enterprise measurement framework in line with Medscheme strategy and AfroCentric Group strategic levers.

His career in technology began at Discovery as a strategic projects analyst, advancing to associate specialist in analytics and strategic operations. He later held roles at Nielsen as lead for sub-Saharan Africa statistical operations and at South African Breweries as the advanced analytics lead for strategic insights. Vukosi first held a chief data officer role at Kaelo before returning to AfroCentric as head of data solutions at Medscheme, eventually rising to executive head of data insights and AI.

An active contributor to the data and technology community, Vukosi sits on multiple advisory and editorial boards. He is a multi-award-winning executive, an associate educator in Oxford University’s executive AI programme, a member of the SA National AI Strategy forum, a Gartner peer ambassador, and a sought-after speaker at industry conferences.

Vukosi holds a bachelor’s degree in economic science from the University of the Witwatersrand, as well as postgraduate qualifications in risk management and business administration from UNISA and the UNISA Graduate School of Business Leadership. He furthered his expertise with a postgraduate programme in digital strategies for business from Columbia Business School, a diploma in cloud computing and AI from Texas McCombs School of Business, and completed the Oxford executive leadership programme at Saïd Business School.

In his spare time, Vukosi enjoys running and has competed in four Comrades Marathons, four Irene Ultra Marathons, the Two Oceans Marathon, Cape Town Marathon, and completed the Soweto Marathon.
