Fred Swanepoel has more than 30 years of experience in finance, banking and information technology. In 1996 Fred joined Nedbank to run the regional operations in the Western Cape. In 2000 he brought his operational experience into the group’s technology arena and was appointed Nedbank Group CIO in November 2008. Before he joined Nedbank Fred held several high-level positions in the technology environment, including divisional director for finance, risk and compliance, projects and programme management, and head of group software services. In 2020 Fred was recognised as Chief Information Officer of the Year by the International Business Magazine, the Africa Tech Week and the Global Banking & Finance Awards. He has an MBA from Wits University and a BCom Honours from Stellenbosch University.
