Philile will be responsible for the group functions technology portfolio, and for the Prague Office Tech Hub.
Dr Philile Mkhize has been appointed as the new chief operating officer: technology at Absa Group. She has more than 15 years of executive leadership experience in strategy, management, and innovation, a bulk of it in financial services.
“I’m excited to join the Absa family as chief operations officer: technology, leading the group functions technology portfolio as COO and Prague Office Tech Hub, among other COO responsibilities,” commented Philile on her LinkedIn page. “I look forward to reconnecting and working with my fellow technology exco, Absa leadership, partners, associates, and amazing teams from all our global operations. Thank you to all my Absa colleagues for the warmest welcome and support, it’s good to be home,” she added.
In 2018, Philile was chief of staff: group CIO at Absa. Prior to returning to Absa, Philie was technology executive for retail and corporate at Liberty. She also worked as technology lead and portfolio manager at Barclays.
Philile holds a bachelor’s degree in informatics from the University of Johannesburg. She completed her MBA and later PhD in entrepreneurship and business management from the California Intercontinental University. Philile has also participated in Henley Business School’s international executive programme, and the Gordon Institute of Business Science’s senior management programme.
