Absa Group appoints Ridwaan Rasool as new chief data and analytics officer

Ridwaan spent the last 18 months building Absa’s engineering capabilities.

Ridwaan Rasool has been appointed as the chief data and analytics officer (CDAO) at Absa Group. Prior to his promotion, Ridwaan was CIO for data engineering, where he spent the last 18 months building Absa’s engineering capabilities.

Before joining Absa, Ridwaan was a senior manager for infrastructure services at UTi Worldwide. He then joined Barclays Africa Group as vice president for digital and mobile, leading the digital channels in the greater Africa business before working in the office of the CIO (Rest of Africa) as Chief of Staff.

His subsequent roles included director for IT: Strategic Technology Sourcing, during the Absa separation journey from Barclays, and subsequently head of technology for the risk, compliance, financial crime and audit functions before taking on the role of CIO for data engineering, bolstering Absa’s engineering capabilities.

In addition to an honours in information technology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Ridwaan holds an MBA from the Gordon Institute of Business Science and has completed the Harvard Business School’s senior executive programme for Africa.
