Avsharn’s experience will help to advance the group’s digital transformation initiatives.
Avsharn Bachoo has been named group technology director of AfroCentric, South Africa's most diverse, black-owned health group, effective 01 May 2022. Bachoo is a technology strategist with over two decades of experience as a chief information officer and chief technology officer.
Before joining AfroCentric Group, he was the CIO of Comair. He has a broad range of expertise in digital transformation, software engineering, data analytics, machine learning, cloud computing, DevOps, and enterprise architecture.
AfroCentric group CEO Ahmed Banderker welcomed Avsharn’s appointment, saying his wealth of experience will add tremendous value to the group’s digital transformation initiatives. “I am confident that under his leadership, our continuous efforts to leverage technology to innovate our service and offerings and eliminate inefficiencies will enhance value not only for our members, but also our shareholders,” said the CEO.
Avsharn has worked with tech titans such as IBM, Microsoft, and Google to implement cutting-edge innovations at major banks and insurers throughout his career. He is also a published researcher, having contributed research to international scientific journals that have been cited as case studies for successful digital transformation in a number of industry forums.
Avsharn holds a PhD in systems architecture and a master’s in information systems from the University of the Witwatersrand, a BSc honours from Unisa, and a BCom from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
