Hannes will oversee business development for Binance’s South African operations.
Hannes Wessels, a former global head of banking for HSBC, has been appointed as the new country manager of Binance in South Africa. Binance is the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the world by daily trading volume.
Hannes has spent more than a decade in the financial services industry, with the bulk of his finance career spent at HSBC. He graduated from the University of the Free State with a BCom in economics: banking, and a BCom (Hons) in money and banking.
“I am excited to join Binance at a time when crypto adoption is still in its infancy in South Africa and look forward to playing a leading role in Binance’s growth strategy in South Africa,” he says.
Founded in 2017 by Changpeng Zhao, affectionately called ‘CZ’ in the crypto community, and a former software developer of high frequency trading software, Binance is the world’s leading blockchain ecosystem, with the largest digital asset exchange among its product offerings.
