Dr Bongani Andy Mabaso has been nominated for the 2026 CIO Awards for his role as group CTO at Altron.
Dr Bongani Andy Mabaso joins a growing list of tech executives competing to take home one (or more) of the nine awards up for grabs at the annual “Oscars of IT”, including the CIO of the Year title.
Dr Andy stepped into the group CTO role at Altron in 2024, following a stint as CEO at SITA SOC.
He has also served as CIO of digital and customer journeys at Standard Bank Group and as an executive research manager at Transnet Engineering.
He began his career as an electronic engineer at Transnet Engineering and later moved through various technology and research roles at the company, building a career that now spans over 15 years in technology.
Andy holds a PhD in machine ethics and computational morality from the University of Pretoria, a master of philosophy in inclusive innovation from the University of Cape Town and a BSc in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Cape Town.
The CIO Awards continues to celebrate leaders who raise the bar for people leadership in South Africa across listed companies, large corporations and government institutions.
Following the success of the fifth annual CIO Awards in 2025, CIO South Africa continues to shine a spotlight on the finest in IT and their achievements. On 25 November, the 2026 nominees will be celebrated during a gala ceremony at The Inanda Club in Sandton.
