Dr Bongani Mabaso is Altron’s new group CTO

Bongani will take on the task of executing Altron’s transformative growth strategy, focusing on AI and data analytics, while expanding the group’s platform ecosystem.

Altron, a leading IT services management company specialising in delivering cutting-edge technology solutions to facilitate the digital transformation of businesses, effectively managing and modernising organisations’ legacy systems, has appointed former SITA CEO Dr Bongani ‘Andy’ Mabaso as its new group CTO.

In 2019, Bongani was the CIO for digital and customer journeys at Standard Bank Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB). He later joined SITA (State Information Technology Agency) in 2023 as CEO. At Transnet Engineering, where he spent over a decade, Bongani was executive research manager, in charge of leading a diverse team responsible for R&D in machine intelligence, data platforms and analytics, IoT hardware and electronics, control systems, sustainable energy, and propulsion systems and motors.

Bongani completed his BSc in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Cape Town degree and an MPhil in inclusive innovation, business philosophy, solutions prototyping and startups from UCT’s Graduate School of Business. He also holds a PhD in machine ethics and computational morality from the University of Pretoria.
