An experienced IT leader and founder, Dr Sylvia Sathekge will lead the definition and implementation of the National Health Laboratory Service's (NHLS) IT strategy as the newly appointed CIO.
The NHLS has appointed Dr Sylvia Sathekge as its new CIO, bringing with her over 20 years of technology leadership experience across South Africa’s public and private sectors.
She has held key roles at some of the country’s leading organisations, including Eskom, Airports Company South Africa and Anglo Platinum. Most recently, she served as CIO at SNG Grant Thornton, where she led enterprise-wide digital transformation initiatives.
“I am incredibly excited to step into the role of chief information officer at NHLS, a leading public health organisation. As a member of the executive management team, my core focus will include driving comprehensive digital transformation to modernise applications and automate processes, thereby building a more cost-efficient, flexible and resilient IT infrastructure,” she explains.
A cybersecurity specialist, Sylvia is also set to strengthen NHLS’s information security framework. “A key priority will also be to significantly strengthen our cyber resilience and establish NHLS as a quality healthcare provider through robust, secure information platforms. I look forward to optimising IT value, fostering continuous innovation and enhancing operational excellence to empower NHLS in delivering on its critical public health mission across South Africa,” she continues.
Sylvia is a member of the Institute of Directors in Southern Africa and holds advanced degrees in technology management and business leadership, as well as a doctorate in executive business management and administration from Business School Netherlands (BSN).
