Rubrik, a cloud data management and data security company based in California, has appointed Lloyd Timcke as country manager for South Africa. His new responsibilities will include expanding Rubrik’s data security leadership in South Africa.

Lloyd, who is based in Johannesburg, has more than 15 years of industry experience, having previously held senior leadership positions at Instabase and Cloudera. Notably, Timcke led BMC Software’s strategic accounts programme for Africa, where he was instrumental in expanding the company’s presence in the region.

“From the boardroom to the IT department, every organisation in South Africa needs to secure their data and have a cyber recovery strategy to survive an attack,” Lloyd says.

“As cyber criminals sharpen their strategies and become more sophisticated, Rubrik’s data security innovations arm customers with the business resiliency they need. I’m thrilled to be a part of Rubrik’s mission to secure the world’s data and to continue to deliver for our customers in South Africa.”

According to data from cyber security firm Surfshark, South Africa has experienced the highest year-over-year increase in cyber crime, with a 277 percent increase. Lloyd’s priority as Rubrik’s regional leader will be to continue to collaborate closely with the company’s strong community of customers and partners. He will also serve as a catalyst for the expansion of strategic accounts throughout the region.

His appointment comes on the heels of Rubrik’s strong global momentum, which includes recently surpassing $500 million (R8.7 billion) in subscription annual recurring revenue, increasing customer count to more than 5,000, and appointing Mark McLaughlin, former Palo Alto chairman and CEO, to its board of directors.
