The appointment aligns with MTN’s leadership evolution to strengthen succession planning, enhance operational execution, and advance its Ambition 2025 strategy.

MTN Group has named Mazen Mroué, the company’s chief technology and information officer (CTIO), as the CEO of its Digital Infrastructure (Infraco) business, effective 1 January 2025. In this expanded role, Mazen will oversee the mobility and fibre operations of Bayobab and drive the execution of MTN’s data centre strategy, all while positioning the group for growth and profitability in the development of AI across Africa. Mazen will continue to report directly to the group president and CEO, and retain his membership on the group’s executive committee.

Since joining MTN in 1998, Mazen has held several senior positions within the group’s regional operations in Africa and the Middle East, including CEO and COO roles across multiple operating companies. He has also served as a board member of various companies within the MTN Group. Mazen’s strong technology and operational experience, combined with his track record of delivery, positions him well to fulfil this dual mandate.

Mazen holds a master’s degree in engineering, intellectual systems and networks. He is also certified in leadership development and executive finance from Harvard business school and INSEAD business school respectively.
