Nyiko will lead Multichoice’s new tech division.
MultiChoice South Africa, Africa’s leading broadcasting and entertainment company, has announced that Nyiko Shiburi has transitioned from his role as CEO after three years in the role. He will now lead Multichoice’s newly formed technology division as group chief technology officer. SuperSport CEO Marc Jury will now be the new MultiChoice SA CEO.
The new division will house the group’s broadcast technology, enterprise business systems, and digital and streaming technology units, as well as a project management office, under one umbrella.
Nyiko has been with MultiChoice for 16 years, where he has served in various pivotal roles. In his capacity as the group GM of the broadcast technology division, he spearheaded the successful launch of GOtv, MultiChoice’s digital terrestrial television service in Africa.
Later, as the regional director for MAH Southern Africa, he effectively steered the company through a period of growth. He holds a Master' degree in engineering management from the University of Johannesburg, and has completed executive leadership programmes from INSEAD and MIT, earning certifications in both.
“Nyiko has extensive leadership experience in the technology space having grown within the MultiChoice ranks from senior manager for broadcast engineering and group GM for the broadcast technology division,” said Calvo Mawela, MultiChoice’s group CEO.
“His technology background and experience, together with his commercial experience from having run South Africa and the southern region, place him in good stead to lead this new division and deliver the best technology to achieve our goals.”
