Multichoice’s Showmax appoints Andrea Zappia as new chairperson

Andrea’s experience in the streaming market will help the company become the premier provider of streaming services in Africa, according to Multichoice’s CEO Calvo Mawela.

Showmax, an online subscription video-on-demand service that began in 2015 and is available throughout sub-Saharan Africa as well as certain diaspora markets globally, has appointed Andrea Zappia as its new chairperson.

Andrea is a highly experienced broadcast media executive and is currently a non-executive director at MultiChoice. Prior to joining Showmax, Andrea was executive vice president and CEO of new markets and businesses at Sky Group (London).

Andrea has previously held several leadership positions at Sky. He joined the company in 2003, just as Sky debuted its pay-TV service in the region, as VP: marketing, promotion, and business development. He later took over Sky Italia’s sports channels before becoming MD: customer group at BskyB. He became CEO of Sky Italia in 2011 and was promoted to CEO for continental Europe in 2018. He holds a BSc in economics.
