2023 CIO Awards nominee Norbit Williams has been appointed as Eskom’s senior manager for group IT: governance services, effective 1 November 2023. Prior to that, he was CIO at the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE).
In an exclusive interview with CIO South Africa, Norbit reflected on some of his achievements during his time with the DPE, where he wrote the department’s initial IT strategy based on the concept of IT anywhere, anytime, and on any device.
“The idea with that was to ensure that the end-user base could work anywhere with any device that they chose,” he explained.
Norbit holds a BCom in information technology from the University of the Western Cape, and a master’s in IT from the University of Pretoria. He has also participated in a CIO training programme on strategic management of information technology through Singapore’s cooperatives programme, and completed a post graduate certificate in executive management in public administration from North-West University.
To unwind, Norbit enjoys playing golf – an opportunity to have a little bit of introspection and be outdoors, as he explains it.
