Spar’s Mark Huxtable resigns

The CIO’s resignation is for personal reasons and he will leave the retailer at the end of September.

Mark Huxtable has resigned from his position as Spar group CIO: IT executive. He will leave the retailer at the end of September. Mark has cited personal reasons for his resignation.

Mark is a seasoned retail executive. Prior to joining Spar, Mark was the CIO and IT board director Massdiscounters t/a Game and Dionwired, CEO of Worldwide Chain Stores (WCS), and group CIO at Massmart. He completed the management development programme (MDP) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, where he studied economics, accounting, industrial relations, organisational behaviour, marketing, and human resources.

According to Spar's chairman, Mike Bosman, Brett McDougall – who is currently the national IT executive for Spar – will assist the team in Mark’s absence. Brett was the group CIO at Massmart before joining Spar. He holds a BCom degree in accounting from Wits University.
