TUI Group appoints Pieter Jordaan as its new chief information officer


Pieter’s appointment is aligned with TUI’s focus on digital transformation.

TUI Group, a German leisure, travel, and tourism company, recently announced the appointment of Pieter Jordaan, a South African IT executive, as its new chief information officer (CIO).

Founded in 1923, the company now owns or controls several travel agencies, hotel chains, cruise lines, and retail stores, as well as five European airlines, with a recent emphasis on the expansion of digital travel platforms.

TUI Group currently serves more than 27 million customers, 21 million of whom work for European national companies.

Its TUI Care Foundation, with projects in 25 countries, focuses on the positive effects of tourism, education and training, and strengthening environmental and social standards.

TUI decided to appoint Pieter as CIO with a direct reporting line to the company’s CEO, Sebastian Ebel, who had already assumed overall responsibility for IT on the executive board, in light of the company’s focus on digital transformation.

“I am delighted that Pieter Jordaan joins us as CIO from our TUI IT leadership team,” said Sebastian, adding that Jordaan’s role will “enable a fast and efficient implementation of our ambitious digitalisation strategy”.

Pieter will be responsible for projects such as the expansion of TUI’s dynamic production, new products such as Accommodation Only and Flight Only, the expansion of the TUI App, and the further rollout of TRIPS in the Western Region.

Pieter is a South African native who has worked for TUI for over eight years. As group chief technology officer for the past three years, he has led the technological development and harmonisation of numerous group platforms.

He also modernised the company’s IT infrastructure and was in charge of the successful implementation of its cloud strategy. Prior to joining TUI, he worked for a number of IT consultancies in the UK.
