Unathi Mtya steps in as new African Bank group CIO

As the CIO, Unathi will be responsible for the implementation of technology across African Bank.

African Bank has appointed Unathi Mtya as its new group CIO with immediate effect.

According to the bank, she will provide the required skill and expertise to translate the company’s ongoing digital strategy into value-add experiences for its customers. “My remit will also include the consideration and implementation of technology platforms that provide value across all digital capabilities of African Bank,” Unathi says.

Unathi joins African Bank from Grindrod Bank, where she served as chief technology officer. Prior to Grindrod, she served as the CIO at the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa. She has also held various senior positions at companies like BCX and FNB.

She has a BSc from the University of Fort Hare, a professional certificate in CIO practice from the University of Witwatersrand and an MSc in technology management from Columbia University.
