2025 CIO Day: From bullshit to bullseye and slay

post-title

At CIO Day on 27 May 2025, one of the breakaway sessions, called Mission IT Possible, gave CIOs an opportunity to dive into different scenarios within individual groups to solve business challenges.

AI was the central theme for every group and scenario, with the accompanying group names also adding to the vibrant and engaging atmosphere. From Team Bullshit to Team Bullseye and Team Slay, IT leaders in one room identified ways in which they could get funding for their start-up ideas.

Group 1 identified that business spends a lot of money getting the right people into roles, and punted the idea of a platform like LinkedIn, where people would be tagged and a bot would follow them around the interwebs. Using posts and other data, the bot would identify when these people want to move jobs, and hook the program into an API to tap into talent pools as well.

In addition, regulations in certain industries require certification, so this would be built into the AI model, and the information could be sold to recruiting companies and corporates for a subscription fee.

Group 2 focused on using AI to take the fear away from AI taking away jobs, create jobs, and carve out tailor-made careers based on each person’s unique life.

By using social media and career information, monitoring emotions and analysing spending patterns, the program would identify how much money a person required from their career and then create a customised role. This information would then be sold to corporates to redefine roles already in existence and create a unique career.

One CIO quipped that Group 2 should use the same business model to find unique soulmates, too!

In a related idea, Group 3 focused on the individuality of schoolgoers, citing worrying data around inequality and low literacy levels. AI would look at the journey from cradle to tax (paying citizen) by focusing on individual skill sets, psychometric assessments and suggesting careers that could be linked to those.

The key theme arising was the creation of personalised offerings from structured data to help organisations deliver on key business objectives.
