Absa Group CITO Johnson Idesoh joins the list of IT executives in the running for the 2025 CIO of the Year title.

Johnson Idesoh has been nominated for the 2025 CIO Awards for his work as the Group CITO at Absa.

Johnson previously served as CIO at Old Mutual from 2018 to 2022, where he led strategic IT initiatives across the organisation. Before that, he spent over four years as CTO for emerging markets (2014 to 2018). His career spans global leadership roles at Accenture, AstraZeneca, and Aviva, bringing a wealth of experience in IT governance and enterprise technology.

He is among the nominees competing to take home one (or more) of the nine awards up for grabs at the annual “Oscars of IT” this year, including the CIO of the Year title.

His educational accomplishments include an advanced management programme from Harvard Business School, an MBA from the University of Strathclyde and a bachelor’s in avionics from the University of Glasgow. He also served as an executive board member of CABS from 2021 to 2022.

Following the success of the third annual CIO Awards in 2024, CIO South Africa continues to shine a spotlight on the finest in IT and their achievements. On 13 November, the 2025 nominees will be celebrated during a gala ceremony at The Inanda Club in Sandton.
