CIO Mary Mahuma nominated for 2025 CIO Awards

Philip Morris Southern Africa CIO Mary Mahuma joins the list of IT leaders in the running for the prestigious 2025 CIO of the Year title.

Mary Mahuma has been nominated for the 2025 CIO Awards for her work as the CIO at Philip Morris Southern Africa (PMSA).

Mary joined PMSA in 2022. Before this, she was the head of IT for brand and marketing at Standard Bank Group. With over two decades of experience in IT, Mary has worked for some of the biggest organisations in the country, including Telkom, Private Security Regulatory Authority, the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) and Liberty Group. She began her career at the Private Security Regulatory Authority.

She is among the nominees competing to take home one (or more) of the nine awards up for grabs at the annual “Oscars of IT” this year, including the CIO of the Year title.

Mary is a proponent for continuous education. Her educational accomplishments include a bachelor of laws degree (LLB) and a Baccalaureus Administrationis degree. She also holds a postgraduate commerce degree in public administration.

She has completed several leadership development programmes offered by renowned institutions like Yale School of Management and Henley Business School. Mary has also completed an MBA essentials through Stellenbosch Business School. Additionally, she has completed certifications in A+ Ready and N+ and others with the Information Systems Examination Board, HDI, AWS, Microsoft and EXIN.

Following the success of the third annual CIO Awards in 2024, CIO South Africa continues to shine a spotlight on the finest in IT and their achievements. On 13 November, the 2025 nominees will be celebrated during a gala ceremony at The Inanda Club in Sandton.
