Momentum Metropolitan’s group chief digital and technology officer is in the running for an award.
Momentum Metropolitan Holdings’ group chief digital and technology officer (CDTO), Dhesen Ramsamy, has been nominated for the 2023 CIO Awards. He was appointed as Momentum’s CDTO in April 2022, succeeding Momentum’s CTO Chris Kruger. However, he has been with the financial services group since 2020 as an executive for commercialisation and customer interaction. Dhesen formerly worked at Commonwealth Bank as the head of customer experience, insights, CRM, and loyalty, and at Woolworths as the head of customer.
Dhesen is a seasoned technology executive with more than 20 years of experience in the IT industry. At Momentum, Dhesen is responsible for enabling the implementation of the group’s robust, innovative, and cohesive digital IT strategy in support of its strategy business objectives.
Outside of IT, Dhesen is a music lover and a self-proclaimed music nerd. His favourite genres include folk rock, grunge and reggae music. He was also among the speakers at CIO South Africa’s Year End function in December last year. At the function, Dhesen shared his sentiments on the war on IT talent, and what keeps employees engaged.
“We ran a very comprehensive survey internally with 1,500 techies across the group, and two thirds of participants wanted to know that they are working on cool stuff,” he said. “They also said they want to understand that the company they’re working for has their best interest at heart, and they wanted to know that there are opportunities for them to grow and move internally.”
He holds a BSc in chemical engineering from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, an MBA from the University of Cape Town, and has completed The Wharton School’s executive education programme in international housing finance.
