Francois is the latest IT executive vying for the CIO of the Year title in November.
Francois Swanepoel who has been the CIO at Oceana Group since 2020 has been nominated for the 2024 CIO Awards. He is an industrial engineer by training and a highly experienced IT executive, having spent most of his career in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and manufacturing sectors.
Francois’s IT career began as a business analyst with Clover South Africa, where he spent 17 years. Throughout his tenure at Clover, Francois held various roles, including manager: production, information services manager, and group manager: information services (head of IT), before being appointed as the company’s CIO.
He holds a national diploma in industrial engineering from the Tshwane University of Technology, and a Btech degree in industrial engineering from the same institution. Francios also holds a BSc (Hons) in applied sciences (industrial systems) from the University of Pretoria, and a master’s degree in computer science and IT from the North-West University.
The 2024 CIO Awards recognise individuals who have excelled in an IT capacity in their respective industries, built and led great teams, and effectively completed crucial initiatives in their organisations. The awards also highlight the world-class excellence that has come to be associated with South Africa’s top IT executives.
