The nomination positions the Sun International group CIO among top-tier IT leaders vying for the CIO of the Year title.
Pragasen Pather, group CIO at Sun International, has secured a nomination for the prestigious CIO Awards. As group CIO, Pragasen is accountable for delivery of strategic technology direction for the group’s land-based and online casinos, hotels and resorts. His primary responsibilities include operational stability, cybersecurity, execution of strategic objectives, and digital enablement.
Prior to joining Sun International, Pragasen held director roles at Tiger Brands and Liberty, and has a strong background in IT governance, risk and security. He also spent 11 years in the UK working for Citigroup, a global financial service institution, where he served as vice president for technology: international private banking.
Pragasen’s core competencies include understanding of business operations, sound commercial acumen and how to foster exceptional team culture, crucial skills he developed outside the boardroom and on the tennis court. He's a qualified tennis coach and applies that winning mentality to his professional endeavours.
He holds a BCom degree in business management from the University of South Africa and has participated in Citigroup’s leadership and development programmes.
The CIO Awards, often referred to as the Oscars of IT, celebrate excellence in IT leadership. The awards will be held on 12 November at The Polo Room, Inanda Club in Sandton.
