Engen’s CIO is in the running to secure the conveted CIO of the Year Award.
Aveena Mothilall, the chief information officer at Engen, has been nominated for the 2024 CIO Awards. As CIO, Aveena is responsible for all information and technology products and services across the group, enabling business operations across South Africa, Namibia, Eswatini, Lesotho, Botswana and Mauritius. The scope of Aveena’s accountability includes information technology, digital, data, cybersecurity, enterprise architecture, infrastructure and operations, governance, risk and compliance.
Aveena has spent close to two decades in the energy and petrochemicals sector. Prior to joining Engen, Aveena was capital portfolio manager at Sasol Energy, responsible for embedding capital excellence in the way of working, inclusive of all governance, policies and processes for project and portfolio management. Aveena had a short stint with Coca-Cola Beverages Africa, where she was SAP programme cutover manager.
She holds a BCom degree in information systems (with honours) from the University of Natal. Aveena has also participated in Duke’s women in leadership programme, Sasol’s senior accelerated leadership programme through the University of Stellenbosch Business School, the managing managers programme through GIBS, and the situational leadership management of others programme.
The CIO Awards – dubbed the Oscars of IT – recognise outstanding IT leaders, their accomplishments, and some of the exceptional ways they have led their teams to success.
