ICT heavyweight Maphum Nxumalo returns as acting GCE at Gijima

post-title

Maphum previously served as Gijima COO and then CEO. His appointment as acting group chief executive is in line with the ICT firm’s commitment to agile leadership.

Gijima, one of South Africa's leading ICT companies, has appointed Maphum Nxumalo. He returns as acting group chief executive (GCE), with the mandate to implement the new strategy until Gijima appoints a new permanent group GCE.

Maphum is among three other strategic appointments Gijima has made. Maphum is also a non-executive director on the Gijima board.

He joined Gijima in 2014 as the chief operations officer (COO) from T-Systems, where he was the executive director on the board of T-systems South Africa. In 2022, Maphum initially announced his retirement, which led to the late IT veteran Hamilton Ratshefola, who was affectionately known as ‘Mr H’, succeeding him as group managing executive.

Maphum is a seasoned IT executive with 45 years of industry experience in both local and global ICT firms. He completed his studies in datametrics, operations research, statistics, information systems, mathematics and computer science from the University of South Africa. Maphum has also participated in executive development and leadership programmes with Wits Business School and INSEAD.

Other notable appointments include Roberta Gumede as new deputy group chief executive. She previously served as CMO and acting CHRO. Sylvester Samuel has been promoted to group chief operations officer, and Ronnie Mundalamo is the new group chief financial officer after acting as GCE for over a year.
