MTN’s Nikos Angelopoulos nominated for the 2023 CIO Awards

Nikos joins other IT leaders competing for an award on 15 November.

Nikos Angelopoulos, group CIO at MTN, has been nominated for the 2023 CIO Awards, where he will compete for the coveted CIO of the Year title.

He joined MTN in 2018 as group CIO and was responsible for information technology design and delivery. He is also in charge of managing and maintaining the group’s standard IT infrastructure and ensuring that the company leads in innovation and customer experience. Nikos was the EVP information technology and product engineering at Du before joining MTN.

Nikos is an experienced IT professional with more than 25 years of management consulting and working for telcos service providers. He began his career with Accenture in the UK, where he spent 15 years assisting clients in various industries to begin their digital journeys. His initial assignments were in the financial services business, where he worked on the London Stock Exchange’s digital transition.

Later, he transitioned to telecommunications, where he worked with cable providers and telcos in Europe, Asia, and the US to create digital television platforms and services. Following his departure from Accenture, Nikos joined Vodafone, where he held several senior management positions, including CIO for Vodafone Italy and South Europe and member of the Group IT Board. He joins MTN from Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company in the UAE, where he was executive vice president for IT & product engineering.

Nikos graduated from the University of Athens with a BSc in physics and an MSc in digital communications and signal processing from Imperial College, University of London. Nikos also earned an executive MBA from the London Business School.
