A triple CIO Award winner, Nomonde White-Ndlovu rejoins the bank following nearly five years as CIO of Bidvest Bank.
Nomonde brings almost two decades of experience to the role. She previously served in several roles at Absa, with head of governance and reporting for digital solutions, innovation and technology being the latest.
“Being back at Absa Group feels like coming home and taking on the role of CIO for the compliance function is deeply meaningful to me. It’s a truly full-circle moment,” she says.
Nomonde is a multi-award-winning technology executive with senior leadership experience across Barclays Africa, Standard Bank South Africa, BAT and UCS Solutions.
In her new role, she will lead the technology strategy supporting regulatory confidence, operational integrity and financial crime prevention across the group. “Compliance technology sits at the heart of trust in financial services and I’m excited to focus on building secure, resilient and intelligent platforms that enable regulatory confidence, effective crime prevention and strong governance across the Absa Group,” she says.
She adds that her focus will be on partnering with compliance, risk, financial crime and technology teams to modernise and strengthen capabilities in a responsible and future-ready manner, while supporting Absa’s broader digital and transformation agenda.
Nomonde holds an MBA from the Gordon Institute of Business Science and a bachelor of commerce in law and politics from Wits University. She has also completed executive programmes through Wits Business School, Harvard Business School, MIT Sloan School of Management, London School of Economics and Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
She is chairperson of the Wired4Women advisory board and an advocate for women in technology and youth development.
“At its core, this role is about building trust deliberately through disciplined governance, intelligent technology choice and thoughtful execution. I see compliance technology not simply as a control function but as a strategic enabler of integrity, resilience and sustainable growth,” she concludes.
