Transnet’s group CIO is the latest IT leader to join the CIO Awards nominees list.

Pandelani Munyai, group CIO at Transnet, has been nominated for the 2024 CIO Awards. Pandelani is currently serving as the group CIO at Transnet, the largest and most crucial part of the South African freight logistics chain with 56,000 employees across five different operating divisions (Transnet Freight Rail, Transnet Pipeline for Oil and Gas, Transnet National Ports Authority, Transnet Engineering and Transnet Properties).

Pandelani is a strategic thinker and transformational leader who oversees all digital transformation initiatives and ICT infrastructure.

He is an experienced business executive who has worked both locally and internationally (South Africa, Botswana and Nigeria). In his master of business leadership (MBL) studies, Pandelani specialised in mathematical modelling of financial derivatives that enhanced his expertise on financial evaluation of contracts, product development, costing and pricing.

Prior to joining Transnet, Pandelani was the CTO at the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) and executive for technology and innovation at Liquid Intelligent Technologies South Africa before that.

Pandelani is a physicist and electrical engineer by training. He holds a BSc in physics, maths and chemistry, and a BSc in electrical engineering both from the University of Cape Town. He also completed his master of business leadership (MBL) at Unisa.

The 2024 CIO Awards recognise individuals who have excelled in an IT capacity in their respective industries, built and led great teams, and effectively completed crucial initiatives in their organisations.
