John-Paul (JP) will play a key role in advancing African Bank’s strategic mission to promote financial inclusion through innovative and customer-centric digital solutions.

African Bank has appointed John-Paul (JP) Okkers as its new head: digital channel.

JP is a seasoned technology leader and management consultant with many years of experience in the financial services and technology sector. He is an accomplished strategic thinker, skilled in digital and technology transformation, technology solutions delivery, product and portfolio management, business optimisation and business administration.

Prior to joining African Bank, JP was the head of digital for Africa regional operations at Bancassurance & Insurance (ARO) at Absa, focusing on strategic change delivery and governance, including the Absa-Barclays separation and infrastructure technology portfolio management. His first stint in financial services was with Bayport Finance as manager: sales and business development support.

JP holds a master’s degree in digital business from Wits Business School and has completed the financial planning, services and wealth management programme through the PSG Konsult Academy at the University of Stellenbosch.
