Aubrey Mochela has been nominated for the 2026 CIO Awards for his achievements as group GCTO at the City of Johannesburg.
Aubrey is among the nominees competing to take home one (or more) of the nine awards up for grabs at the annual “Oscars of IT”, including the CIO of the Year title.
Aubrey was elected the acting group CTO at the City of Johannesburg in February 2021 and then later to group CTO in September 2021. He has 27 years of experience in both the government and private sector space in planning, designing, implementing and supporting IT solutions to address business process optimisation and growth.
Some of his other IT leadership and executive roles have been at the Johannesburg City Power, the Department of Minerals and Energy and Datacentrix.
He has achieved his MBA and postgraduate diploma in Business Management from Regent and qualifications in municipal finance and leadership from WITS.
Following the success of the fifth annual CIO Awards in 2026, CIO South Africa continues to shine a spotlight on the finest in IT and their achievements. On 25 November, the 2026 nominees will be celebrated during a gala ceremony at The Polo Room in Sandton.
